Prof. Dr. Nilgün HALLORAN was born in Şarkışla district of Sivas in 1962. She completed her secondary education in 1979 at Ankara Gazi High School, and finished university studies in 1983 at the Department of Horticulture in the Faculty of Agriculture of Ankara University. She began her master’s studies at the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences of Ankara University. She was appointed as a research assistant in 1984 to the Department of Horticulture in the Faculty of Agriculture of Ankara University,
In 1985 she began her Ph.D. studies and spent 14 months in the United States as a part of her studies. She completed her Ph.D. in 1991 and and immediately became an assistant professor in the Department of Horticulture of the Faculty of Agriculture of Ankara University. Between 1993 and 1996 she was assistant chair of the Department of Horticulture. She was appointed as a full professor in 1999. She was chair of the department between 2003 and 2004, and the appointed as vice dean of the Faculty of Agriculture between 2004 and 2008.
She is married and has one child.
